Teaching Artist, Youth Arts Programs Urban Montessori Charter School is currently seeking professional, practicing artists to teach youth (4-14 yrs. old) in the Expanded Learning Program. The ideal candidate will be motivated, energetic, have a strong professional background, and a passion for teaching in an after school setting. We are currently seeking teaching artist in the following areas:
Performing Arts - Theater, choir and music (specifically drumming and/or piano)
Key duties:· Design and implement course curriculum in your discipline (10-14) weeks depending on program)· Provide individualized guidance and support for students with a range of skill and abilities· Work with a group of up to 20 students. Work closely with the Program Director to implement the design and delivery of classes.
The TA’s core role is to deliver a comprehensive theater arts/music, skill based curriculum rooted in youth development and healing centered best practices. TAs guide youth participants through building supportive relationships, teaching cultural and historical background, and producing culminating shows.
Ideal candidates:· Have a BA or MA in the field from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience· Experienced as a teaching artist in a classroom/community setting· Able to articulate critical thinking and other creative processes in the arts to young age groups. Excellent communicators with strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills· Working artists with a strong body of work.
Hours and Compensation: This is a contract position; compensation is based on the number of classes taught per session. $32-$45 per hour depending on experience.
