Racial Equity
in Action

We have responded to calls from our community to explicitly name our commitment to racial justice and equity. Throughout all of our programs and partnerships, we will address the harmful legacy of white supremacy culture within arts education organizations in order to move towards collective, creative liberation. What We Do

Arts Ed Alliance CONNECTS and CATALYZES arts education communities for a more just and creative San Francisco Bay Area.

AEA serves as a regional hub and unifying voice for local coalitions of teaching artists, school districts, students and their families, community arts organizations, cultural institutions, city and county agencies, funders, business leaders, and arts education advocates throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. We align our regional work with state efforts through Create CA and with national efforts through the National Guild for Community Art Education. AEA supports our members to cultivate responsive leadership and advocacy for arts education through ongoing convening events, professional learning workshops, monthly newsletters, and advocacy resources.

Vision

AEA envisions a San Francisco Bay Area that centers artists and cultural workers, that holds up the leadership of young people and the wisdom of elders, and that strives to be a place where all people have access to the means of cultural production within their schools and communities to collaboratively build a more vibrant, equitable, and democratic society.

History

AEA grew out of the San Francisco Arts Commission’s Arts Providers Alliance of San Francisco (APASF), which had been serving the local art education community since 1994. In the Fall of 2015, APASF merged with the San Francisco Alliance for Arts Education and the Local Advocacy Network (LAN) of the California Alliance for Arts Education to became the Arts Education Alliance of the Bay Area. We are a member of Intersection for the Arts provides resources, community and cultural space in order to contribute to the sustainable practices of artists and arts organizations the San Francisco Bay Area.
