Classification: Hourly, Part Time, Non-Exempt Terms: At-will employment Reports to: Director of Development & Community Outreach Location: Claremont Middle School, Rockridge, OUSD (BART station nearby) In collaboration with the entire department implements the artistic and educational values in school-based outreach classes. They strive to maintain the quality of experience for students, parents, and teaching staff. Mission Statement: The Riffs Show Choir, established by Berkeley Playhouse founder, Elizabeth McKoy, exists to provide an exceptional life experience through an engagement with the performing arts that enriches the lives of middle school students in underserved schools throughout the East Bay. Berkeley Playhouse established the Riffs as the embodiment of a serious commitment to community, diversity, inclusion, and empowerment. Description: The Riffs are a diverse group of talented, enthusiastic middle schoolers who collaborate with a team of professional choreographers, directors, and musicians to rehearse and ultimately perform a cabaret-style show of contemporary pieces for their community. Through the Riffs curriculum students experience a sense of artistic ownership, creativity, integrity, and freedom of expression. The Riffs promote an atmosphere of acceptance and growth mindset, where every student is welcome. By working with theater professionals, students develop greater musicianship by learning and executing various skills such as proper use of breath support, musical phrasing, interpretation, posture, stage presence, and other techniques. The Riffs creative teaching team is committed to equipping and empowering individual students through performance as a vehicle for artistic discovery and character development. Requirements: Background check, fingerprinting, TB test, COVID-19 vaccination Compensation: $18 per hour Hours: 3-5 hours per week (5 days days per week preferred) Teaching Artist Assistant • The Employee is expected to work in concert with the artistic teaching team to produce a product that meets both the employee’s vision of the program, as well as the expectations of the Berkeley Playhouse artistic staff. • Maintain clear and efficient communication. Be available by phone and/or email to the Director of Community Outreach for consultation and problem solving at crucial times during the class period. Return messages in a timely manner. • Assist the lead teacher in teaching the curriculum set forth. • Check students in and out. • Help establish a safe and equitable classroom environment. • Assist the Lead Teaching Artist with • Share the cleaning, organizing, set-up & restoring duties of the rehearsal space w/ the Lead Teacher. • Participate in conflict resolution and elevate/report occurrences to the appropriate parties. • Attend orientation, trainings, or any meetings set by the Director of Community Outreach. • Support Lead Teaching Artist in administering student, parent, and teacher surveys • Represent Berkeley Playhouse in a positive and inclusive manner. • Employee will not act in any manner which jeopardizes Berkeley Playhouse’s reputation including the violation of copyright or intellectual property laws.

Classes & Camps Manager (ed. 2022) Classification: Salaried, Full Time, Exempt Benefits: Health (Dental & Vision available at employee's expense), Worker's Comp, Vacation and Sick Leave. Terms: At-will employment Reports to: Producing Director of Education and Mainstage Supervises: Classes & Camps Teaching artists and assistants Reviews: Performance reviews scheduled annually In collaboration with the entire department, implements the artistic and educational values in both Musical Theater Arts Education classes and camps. They strive to maintain the quality of experience for students, parents, and teaching staff. ___________________________________________________________________________ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) ADMINISTRATION: Designs and builds classes and camp offering. Locates and contracts offsite spaces for C&C when needed. Manages phone and email education inquiries, with support during high times when available. Places and manages teaching artists and assistants. Manages timesheets for all C&C staff. Maintains a growing relationship with current teaching staff. Coordinates teacher communication with families of enrolled students, in collaboration with PD. Tracks C&C budget costs. Manages financial aid in collaboration with the Outreach Director. Co-manages Counselor In Training program with Producing Director. 2) CURRICULUM & PROGRAMMING Manages curriculum for C&C and coordinates with commissioned writers if and when needed. Devises and manages classroom supplies, craft projects, and costume/props. Can collaborate with Resident SM. Assures that all curriculum material is suited for the age/level/size of each camp and is inline with the BPH values. Distributes scripts, music, and other materials for C&C. Coordinates teacher orientations each session, in collaboration with Producing Director. Chooses curriculum titles in collaboration with Producing Director and gets approval from Artistic Director. Provides teacher support: "on-call" for urgent classroom circumstances, provides hands-on assistance in the classroom when required, and be available to substitute teach when needed. Prepares logistics and manages introductions for final showings, as well as being present for parent questions. 3) ORGANIZATION RESPONSIBILITIES Works weekends and evenings as required to support educational programming. Works with Youth Productions Manager to maintain organization of all education materials and storage space.
