About Diaspora Stories Project MoAD’s Summer Teen Program—Diaspora Stories Project invites 20 Bay Area students from grades 10, 11, and 12 who are committed to documenting diaspora stories in the Bay Area. During their participation, the youth will work collaboratively with Black art professionals on learning, investigating, and exploring their connection to their individual stories through the lens of digital photography and podcasting. Position Overview This is a part-time, temporary, 14hrs/week, 9-week position (June 1—July 22, 2022). Reporting directly to the Education Program Coordinator, Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) highly experienced, and self-motivated Digital Media Instructor to plan and lead digital photography and podcasting workshops for 20 high school-age youth this summer. The Digital Media Instructor creates a safe, relevant learning environment for the youth to share stories and develop digital media skills using professional-grade technology. The DigitalMedia Instructor develops the project curriculum and works with Teaching Artists to deliver high levels of creative engagement for youth. The DigitalMedia Instructor candidates must be experienced working with high school-age youth, hands-on art-making, group management, and teamwork. To effectively engage students, candidates must enjoy working with diverse audiences and understand best practices in youth development. The ideal candidate has a passion for the art and cultures of the African Diaspora. To provide enriching activities that engage students, the applicant should have a solid understanding of age-appropriate activities and art techniques that engage youth with diverse learning needs and backgrounds. Compensation: $45 per hour (includes pre-program planning) Duties and Responsibilities · Teach the basics of digital photography and podcasting to youth. · Develop a curriculum and a syllabus that teaches young people how to use podcasting and digital photography as mediums of storytelling. · Support students in learning, participation, and tracking progress and completion of projects. · In collaboration with the Education Program Coordinator, and Digital Content Manager plan the project’s culmination event. · Supports program assessment through duties such as evaluations, reports, and tracking. Qualifications · Highly dependable and punctual. · BA or BFA in Digital Media or related fields. 3 years of relevant experience may be substituted for the required education. · Minimum of 2-years of professional experience producing audio content for broadcast, web, or radio. · Two or more years in a high school education environment or other experience working with teens. Public school classroom experience preferred. · A proven track record of success working with teen/high school-aged students. · Outgoing, friendly, and able to promote the MoAD’s mission. · Familiarity with issues relevant to the African Diaspora and communities of color. · Experience with culturally relevant education, curriculum development, and classroom management. · Program/Curriculum development experience. · Ability to manage multiple tasks and project timelines. · Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills. · Ability to attend all hours during the program. · Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. · Able to meet deadlines and ensure the completion of projects on schedule. · Daily access to the internet and communication via email and cell phone is required. To provide enriching activities that engage students, the applicant should have a solid understanding of age-appropriate activities and art techniques that engage youth with diverse learning needs and backgrounds. Regular training will cover these topics. Duties and Responsibilities Organize and maintain all art-making and gallery spaces. Support students in attendance, participation, and tracking progress and completion of projects. Assist instructors and guest artists with various projects. In collaboration with the Education Program Coordinator, plan the project’s culmination event. Conduct program assessment through duties such as evaluations, reports, and tracking. Additional duties as required. Qualifications BA or BFA in Studio Art, Museum Education, Art History, African/African American or African Diaspora Studies, Education, or related fields. 3 years of relevant experience maybe substituted for the required education. Two or more years in a K-12 education environment or other experience working in a museum or school. Public school classroom experience preferred. Demonstrated experience and passion for the arts, art-making, youth development, and teaching. Experience designing lesson plans and/or visual arts curricula. Outgoing, friendly, and able to promote the MoAD’s mission. Highly dependable and punctual. **Ability to work between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.** Experience developing participatory experiences for youth. Familiarity with issues relevant to the African Diaspora and communities of color.
