Job description and application Youth Art Exchange (YAX) is seeking an experienced faculty artist in darkroom photography to become a part of our vibrant youth arts center in San Francisco. We are hiring a faculty member to teach a black + white darkroom photography class during our Fall 2021 Session. The after school class is held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at YAX Studios @ BGCSF (450 Guerrero Street) and the fall session runs from September 8th – December 8th, with occasional events, meetings, and activities on weekends and evenings. We are proud to have a high retention of faculty members and encourage applicants who are interested in teaching long term. About Youth Art Exchange: Youth Art Exchange offers free after-school, weekend and summer programs in visual and performing arts to public high school students in San Francisco. Youth Art Exchange sparks a shared creative practice between professional artists and public high school students, furthering youth as leaders, thinkers, and artists in San Francisco. Our programs combine best practices in arts education and youth development. During the school year we offer six visual & performing art programs (architecture, industrial + product design, fashion design, music production, darkroom photography, and printmaking). Candidates must be professional photographers, preferably experienced in working with urban high school youth. Our classes average a 15:1 student ratio. Teaching artists are paid hourly ($28.62) as temporary part-time employees for class time, (2) field trips, 1:1 prep time, (4) scheduled faculty meetings, as well as regular check-ins with program staff. The ideal candidate will be interested in teaching future sessions of the black + white photography class, in addition to the current course. Job Description: - Developing curriculum and syllabus in collaboration with Program Manager. - Attending four faculty meetings and participating in professional development activities. - Having ongoing communication with co-teacher, students, their families, and YAX staff regarding student issues. - Seeking opportunities to collaborate with other Youth Art Exchange programs. - Exposing students to the Bay Area arts scene. - Developing weekly lesson plans and arranging supplies with Program Manager. - Curriculum and reflection meetings with Program Manager. - Developing and planning class field trips, and final public exhibition / performance. Youth Art Exchange will select candidates for a preliminary zoom interview. 3. Candidates will be invited to come in for an interview with YAX staff and Youth Advisory Board. They will be asked to bring a presentation of sample work (candidate's own and former students') and a sample lesson plan. As part of the interview, candidates will be asked to facilitate a 15-minute activity demonstrating their approach to teaching. We are currently hiring for these positions: BAYAC Corps Member/ Program Assistant Job description and application BAYAC AmeriCorps collaborates with over 40 agencies in schools and community-based organizations to serve youth and families in the San Francisco Bay Area. As part of AmeriCorps, BAYAC Members commit to a full-time (40 hours/week) term of service in the Bay Area's most high-need communities, working to provide youth with opportunities for meaningful engagement, skill building, and emotional and social development. Host Site: Youth Art Exchange The Program Assistant at Youth Art Exchange (YAX) supports implementation of YAX programming, outreach, events, and youth leadership. The Program Assistant will work with program staff to ensure the success of our free In School and After School arts programs for San Francisco public high school students at YAX’s [x]space arts hub in the Excelsior and YAX Studios at BGCSF in the Mission. The Program Assistant will gain skills and experience in data management, program design and implementation, and learn about nonprofit organizations, arts education, and youth development. YAX is a small organization, and interns and volunteers are an integral part of the YAX team and community.
