Watch videos about WAM: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLei-XYYGwj7mCCi9C1ilGdOrgRMOO3Wdh Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Education, the Education Coordinator and Instructor will be responsible for coordinating logistics and administration for all WAM education programs and for teaching audio technology classes to girls and gender-expansive youth and/or adults. The Education Coordinator and Instructor collaborates with the Education team to support education program logistics with communications, outreach, scheduling, facilities, equipment coordination and instruction. The ideal candidate has experience teaching youth and/or adults, education in and experience with audio technology, program coordination and administration, and stellar communication skills. The successful applicant will be someone who is passionate about our mission of advancing women, girls and gender-expansive folks in the fields of music, media and technology. Role and Responsibilities: Education Program Support (85%) Adult Education (30%) - Provides administrative support for Adult Education classes and conferences. - Corresponds with adult education instructors to determine equipment and facilities needs for their courses. - Supports with equipment coordination and scheduling facilities for adult education and conference offerings - Sets up any equipment or video conferencing equipment or platforms (e.g. Zoom, Streamyard) required by instructors in advance of classes. - Staffs virtual & in-person classes and conferences and provides instructor support. Adult classes typically take place in the evenings and sometimes weekends. - Compiles promotional assets (copy, images, details) for website and social media promotion. - Manages all communications with students and troubleshoots any student issues. Girls on the Mic Administrative Support (25%) - Provides scheduling and technical support for Girls on the Mic (GOTM) Youth Program Studio Days - Supports Education team with equipment maintenance (often shared across programs), including the hardware and software in our Oakland learning lab - Prepares paperwork and equipment for each session (3x year) Internship Program (15%) - Provides scheduling, studio orientation and technical support for Intern Studio Days - Collaborates with Internship Program Manager to staff intern meetings and events (around Bay Area) - Supports Internship Program Manager with ongoing intern correspondence - Supports Internship Program Manager with facilitating time-sensitive program opportunities such as shadowing and guest speakers General Department Support (15%) - Serves as primary contact for members participating in education programs, as well as general department correspondence - Works with Education team and Marketing Manager to collect Education content for Newsletter and social media Instruction (15%) - Provides instruction for Girls on the Mic classes, offered to middle school girls ages 11-18. Classes take place in WAM's studio, Oakland location and also at our partner San Francisco and Oakland schools. Local travel is required between WAM’s two studios, offices and school partner sites. Roughly 1–2 classes per week, as needed. - Adult Education Instruction, depending on certification and experience, in areas such as Pro Tools and Basic Recording Techniques Qualifications: ● 1-3 years of program coordination and/or administrative work, including scheduling, organization, communications ● 1-3 years of instructional experience teaching youth and/or adults in classroom setting ● Educational background and/or experience in audio technology ● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience ● Experience using and setting up audio software such as Garageband, Pro Tools or similar, audio equipment such as microphones, audio interfaces, mixing consoles and speakers. ● Self-starter ● Strong organizational skills ● Exceptional attention to detail ● Excellent verbal and written skills Preferred Qualifications: ● Bilingual in Spanish ● Experience with culturally-responsive teaching ● Pro Tools Certification Location: This in-person position is located in San Francisco and Oakland, with regular travel throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, with occasional travel nationally. Primary Objectives and Responsibilities: Program Administration (30%) ● Oversees all day-to-day logistics for Girls on the Mic youth program, including class booking, networking, materials and content management, and team supervision ● Oversee curriculum and class activities development and documentation including in-person and on-demand modules, with support from Director of Education ● Collects and maintains accurate student enrollment data, paperwork and attendance and enters into databases in a timely fashion ● Provides monthly grant reports and other ongoing program data to the WAM leadership team ● Oversees equipment management for GOTM programs ● Finding education resources to promote GOTM, creating newsletters and social media posts in collaboration with Marketing Manager ● Tracks program expenses, including transportation (BART, Lyft) and materials ● Participates in professional development opportunities, and skill-enhancing programs as determined by WAM’s leadership team Team Management, Coaching and Training (40%) ● Manage and supervise part time GOTM instructor team including regular check-ins and ensuring alignment with curriculum and program outcomes ● Manage WAM interns in GOTM instructional settings and provide feedback to WAM Intern Manager on intern performance as mentors/teaching assistants ● Monitors and approves weekly timesheets for payroll ● Ensure necessary staff availability and coverage for classes, and rolling recruitment of instructors ● Facilitate onboarding and offboarding of new GOTM instructors, with support from Operations Manager ● Leads reflective, inquiry-based Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings with GOTM instructors ● Coordinates networking and professional development opportunities for the instructor team ● Supports instructors with coaching, including observation and evaluation, offering feedback and other support with curriculum and instruction needs Networking and Partnership Development (20%) ● Designs and implements engagement and outreach strategies for the Girls on the Mic program, including seeking new school partners and sites ● Regularly connects with school partners to ensure program success ● Attends virtual/in-person events (e.g., school partner meetings, district meetings, school project showcase fairs, Expanding Your Horizons weekend conferences) ● Builds partnerships with other Bay Area youth program organizations to implement integrated programs Other (10%) ● Provides instruction for Girls on the Mic classes, when coverage is necessary ● Support WAM’s events on and offsite as needed, including conferences, Local Sirens series performances, member and donor events, major fundraisers and others. ● General nonprofit administrative tasks associated with the effective operation of the organization. About WAM Education Programs: Girls on the Mic is a groundbreaking after-school program that provides 2,000+ San Francisco Bay Area girls (96% low income, 92% girls of color, ages 11-18) from under-resourced communities per year with free, hands-on music production and media arts training in a professional studio environment and through our 50+ school partners. The Girls on the Mic curriculum is rooted in the National Core Media Arts and California Performing Arts Standards and amplifies the voices and creativity of girls and gender-diverse youth. WAM Core Adult Classes provide rigorous, hands-on certification training in professional audio and the recording arts, led by award-winning women instructors in WAM’s world class recording studios. WAM Core classes serve 500+ San Francisco Bay Area women and gender-diverse adults per year and include Introduction to Audio Production and Recording, Professional Studio Recording, Live Sound, Pro Tools, Electronic Music Production, Podcasting, Intro to Max, Intro to Acoustics, Intro to Mastering, Synth Building, Classical Recording, and more. WAMCon is WAM’s interactive recording conference for women and gender-diverse individuals featuring top leaders in the industry, including GRAMMY award-winning music producers, recording engineers, songwriters, beatmakers, and record executives involved in making the music we all love. Workshops and discussions cover topics like recording techniques, mixing, mastering, vocal production, songwriting (including demo feedback), beatmaking, the music business, music licensing, and more. Sound for Picture conferences feature Oscar and Emmy-winning post-production sound professionals for animation, film, TV, and games and cover topics like sound design, production sound, dialog and music editing, and re-recording mixing. Primary Objectives and Responsibilities: Internship Program Management (55%) ● Facilitates the interview and selection process for each semester’s intern cohort (3 times annually). ● Leads orientation and training sessions for interns to familiarize them with the organization, our programs, the studios’ operations and set clear expectations. ● Organizes and facilitates professional development, networking and shadowing opportunities with WAM’s corporate partners. ● Provides daily oversight and management of interns. ● Oversees day-to-day scheduling of interns and their responsibilities, including supporting Girls on the Mic and adult classes, studio sessions, studio maintenance, program admin, event support, and other tasks. ● Coordinates regularly with WAM staff on projects in need of support and provides supervision of interns to ensure timely and effective completion. ● Provides soft skills and basic technical training and feedback (communications, professional protocols, basic audio skills, resumes, etc.) to interns. ● Acts as point of contact for WAM’s Internship Program graduates, engaging them as volunteers, mentors, and for special professional development opportunities. ● Implements and maintains an effective database to track interns internally and after graduation. Job Placement and Career Counseling (25%) ● Acts as a liaison to companies, studios, venues, etc. that seek to hire WAM’s graduates or interns. ● Searches company websites and other job boards for possible audio opportunities and disseminates to current and past interns and students. ● Keeps WAM’s job board current and populated with opportunities. ● Coordinates incoming career opportunities and provides support to Director of Education in finding interns (past and present) with matching skill sets. ● Follows up with companies to get feedback on recent placements. ● Maintains placement data in intern database. Internship Graduates/Membership Program Engagement & Coordination (10%) ● Works to increase engagement of WAM’s intern graduates and members through regular communication and events. ● Attends, hosts and/or facilitates events for members and intern graduates. ● Manages member relationships and follows up on lapsed memberships, working with WAM’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. ● Manages online community forum(s), including Facebook groups, job board, and future Slack, Discord, etc. channels to build network and resources available for members and intern graduates. Conferences & Events (10%) ● Provides coordination and production support for events on and offsite as needed, including conferences, performances, studio events, and others. ● Oversees intern scheduling and tasks related to conferences and events.
